Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Honored at the Third
Annual Embassy Celebration Dinner Series.
The
Chamber hosted its Third Annual Embassy Celebration Dinner
Series on November 29th at the Washington Convention Center.
This year, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) was honored with the
GWHCC Public Service Award. Special thanks to Events DC for co-hosting the
event and Ogilvy Washington for its sponsorship of the event. We would also
like to recognize keynote speaker Mr. Michael Camuñez, Assistant Secretary
for Market Access and Compliance of the International Trade Administration
for such an impressive speech, and Dinner Chair Mrs. Jane Lee Garcia for
making this event possible.

The GWHCC Announces Its New Committee Members
The
GHWCC would like to welcome its new committee members: Jose Nino, President
of El Niño Group, and Mauricio Vera, Director of the U.S. Agency for
International Development’s (USAID) Office of Small and Disadvantaged
Business Utilization (OSDBU) on the Advisory Board; Silvia Tergas,
Financial Advisor at Financial Advantage Associates as chair of the Membership
Committee; and Jim DeSantis, President of James R. De Santis on the Fundraising
Committee.
Health Reform and Your Business Seminar
The
Health Reform and Your Business seminar was held last November 8th
and it gathered more than 30 entrepreneurs in Washington DC. We would like
to thank presenters Chris Culotta, Health Care Reform Portfolio Manager
Christina DeVaughn, Product Specialist Marketing & Product Development
from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Inc. and Guadalupe Pacheco, Senior
Health Advisor at US Department of Health and Human Services for sharing
their expertise.

Hunt Laudi Studio finalist for the National Ideas for the
Washington Monument Grounds Competition
GWHCC would like to congratulate Lucrecia Laudi and Miguel
Angel Maldonaldo from Hunt Laudi Studio, for being the only local company
among the six finalists for the National Ideas for the Washington Monument Grounds
Competition. The company was featured in the Washington Post on
November 25th, and we invite all members and friends to go to their website

The
Chamber would like to announce that the 2011 Gala Video is now available

Diversity Business Exchange partnered with The Coalition for
Educational Success to provide minority business with opportunities
On Nov.
30th, Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO), Congressman Jesse
Jackson Jr. (D-IL), and Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) held a press
conference for the Diversity Business Exchange. This unique program will
connect minority-owned and woman-owned businesses with procurement
opportunities provided by Educational Success (Proprietary Career
Colleges). This institution serves more than 350,000 students on 478
campuses in 41 states, and has set aside $1 billion dollars a year for this
program. Chamber member Jimmie Coleman has been named Executive Director
for this important program.

Office Social Security, November 15, 2011. Michael J. Astrue, Commissioner
of Social Security, announced that the agency’s most popular online
services, the applications for retirement and Medicare and for Extra Help
with Medicare prescription drug costs, are now available in Spanish.
The new online services are available at www.segurosocial.gov,
the robust Spanish version of Social Security’s award winning website, www.socialsecurity.gov.
