WASHINGTON, DC –The Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GWHCC) will be celebrating its 40th Annual Gala: Honoring Hispanic Businesses in Construction on June 3rd at the Omni Shoreham in Washington, DC. This year the GWHCC will be recognizing five individuals in the construction sector who have excelled in various categories. The Gala Chairs are Edwin Villegas, President & CEO of Winmar Construction Inc. and Carlos Perdomo, CEO of Keystone Plus Construction Corporation. The event’s keynote speaker is David Velazquez, President & CEO of Pepco Holdings.
“This year the Chamber is celebrating its 40th anniversary! This is a significant milestone for us, the GWHCC and its members have come a long way since 1976,” said Angela Franco, President and CEO. “The GWHCC works every day to help businesses move forward and to build sectors that play an essential role within the community.”
According to the US Census Bureau, Hispanic-owned businesses in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area have doubled since 2007 to almost 66,000. One of the largest sectors among Hispanic-owned businesses is construction with almost 18,000 companies.
“A positive indicator of economic progress of any region is directly related to the number of construction projects in those areas. We have certainly seen the construction boom in Washington and the economic impact in our region over the last few years,” said Alfredo Casta, GWHCC Chairman. “Hispanics in our region have played a key role in the growth of this sector and I’m glad we are recognizing pillars in our community that are examples of success in this exciting sector.”
The GWHCC is recognizing five individuals who have made a difference in this sector:
The Hispanic Leader in Construction: Pedro Alfonso, Dynamic Concepts, Inc.
The Hispanic Leader in Architecture: Salo Levinas, Shinberg Levinas
The Rising Star: Rosa Mojica, MAR Construction LLC
The Innovator: Jose Ortiz, Allstate Floors
Lifetime Achievement: Alberto Gomez, Prince Construction Company Inc.
“Congratulations to all of the honorees!” said Carlos Perdomo, Gala Chair and President of Keystone Plus Construction. “They are all exceptional role models and the Chamber is very proud that our Hispanic business community is so well represented in the construction sector. Our honorees have not only claimed their own place at the table of opportunity, but are helping to open the door for the next generation. Leadership by example will continue to elevate our community."
