What is the Hispanic Heritage Celebration? The Hispanic Heritage Celebration is an annual networking event hosted by GWHCC that gathers regional and local businesses, corporations, nonprofits, local and federal government representatives, elected officials, and embassies to celebrate the culture, traditions, and contributions of the Hispanic community.
Formerly the chamber’s largest networking event, this celebration has been rebranded to be held virtually with events held throughout the last week of HHM. Events to be held include Cook-a-Thon, Pitch Your Biz, and more featuring Chamber members and DC Businesses. |
Why Celebrate Hispanic Heritage?Hispanic Heritage Month is an official celebration of American citizens whose ancestry can be traced back to Spain, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean. It also pays tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.
The festival now lasts from September 15 to October 15 every year, but it first started out as just a week long celebration of in 1968. Twenty years later, in 1988 it expanded to dedicate a whole four weeks for the celebration of being Hispanic. |
